Can anyone tell me anything about the marking on the knife?

Looks like some type of agricultural knife, like for pruning grapes or similar. As for the markings I can’t tell you any more than what is obvious. Maybe someone will recognize the crossed hammer and ? symbol as being the trademark of the maker. I like the gunstock shape!

I've seen a similar mark to that one but can't locate it in my files at the moment. The knife looks to be a variant of the so-called,"penny" knife which was a generic name for an inexpensive knife. They have been made for literally hundreds of years and are extremely difficult to date. The,"Made in Austria" stamp would indicate that it is likely 20th century.Just my opinion folks.I'll keep looking for hte stamp.

I've added photos to show the "liner lock" (hope that is right) which is wood and the "bolster" (hope that is right) which is not a good fit. It is short of making the circle by a bit. Definitely not machine made. What you called a hammer, I assumed was a farming tool of some kind. Anything you can tell me is helpful. Trying to learn. Thanks.

Thank you so much. I have looked for info many times over the years and found nothing. Do you have one like this or just the info? Do you have any thoughts on the sale value?

Resurrecting an old thread, but a friend of mine in North Carolina has this old sickle, and he asked if I could identify it. I found this thread, but there was no resolution as to the manufacturer.
Does anyone today know of an Austrian cutler that used crossed hammers as their logo?

Scott, here is a clearer picture of the blade stamp(s).

I have a knife with this (or a very similar) mark. I identified it as by Hammer & Schlegel, though I honestly don't remember where I got that information. I would think it was somewhere here on AAPK--it's not in Levine, nor in Carter, and Goins mentions the company but doesn't show any trademark.

Also, I see one sold item on Worthpoint identified as Hammer & Schlegel with this trademark, and also on the messerforum (dot) net, there are a couple of postings showing the same trademark for Hammer & Schlegel. So I think this is correct.
