This is my Mothers girl scout knife. I'm thinking about cleaning it up . Sharpening the blade. I'm for sure not taking it apart just preserving it for the future. I think it says Kutmaster Utica ny. I got a kick out of the can opener actually says can opener on the blade

Figured I'd share and I'll post when I get it touched up

NICE!!
A good clean up will make your Mom's knife look like a million bucks!
Can't wait to see the finished product.

After some tender loving cleaning ::groove:: I'd say its ready for use again. I had to reshape the tip of the blade just a bit. The blade clearly had some rust issues at some point. I choose to clean and polish it rather than regind it. Overall I think it came out just fine.

Great job!
Those deep pits always put frown on your face BUT it is a lot better to do what you have done. I used to try to sand and file those pits away but sometime what you are left with is a blade that is too thin to be useful. Better to stop while you are still ahead!
Very nice and very useful again!

I couldn't agree more. It is so tempting to fire up the 2x72 grinder and end up with nothing left! The pits will be gone but so will the blade. Still tempting though.

Thanks all for the kind words. It's always nice to preserve family things and someday Ill pass it along. Those of us that collect either family stuff or other collectibles are really just caretaking for the next collector.
