Rehandled "Original Bowie"

This is a knife I picked up on ebay awhile back. It was made in Solingen Germany for an American distributor named "ROMO". It was in sorry shape, rust pitted and the plastic stag scales were cracked. The markings weren't stamped very deeply. It's no collector for sure but It's Solingen made and I have a thing for German made knives. I've not yet come across one that when sharpened they didn't get shaving sharp and hold the edge well. I bought it for a relaxing project as a hobbyist and the price was right. It's the Original Bowie pattern of which thousands were made by every knife maker in Germany.

After polishing off the rust and most of the pitting I made a guard out of some bronze scrap (the stem out of a bronze valve). I made the scales out of Bighorn sheep horn. The pins are pure silver. I will use this as a hunting as well as a work/utility knife to carry in the pickup for any cutting chores that require a fixed blade.

👍👍love it.. nice restoration work.. What did you make the pins out of? Silver rounds? Junk silver? By the way you have the same initials as me lol

Love the new ram horn scales. I have seen similar Solingen Bowie knives from that era but distributed from Edge Brand.

Thanks. I made the pins out of "dead soft" pure silver wire I purchased from a jewelry supply company. I forget the guage but it's slightly over 5/32.

I love the Bighorn Sheep Horn. I have two of those "Original Bowie Knife" big boys from Solingen. Mine came with genuine Stag, so they still have it. But if they didn't have good Stag, I would be very inclined to go with the Big Horn Sheep Horn after seeing yours.
