Could this be made by Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Could this be made by Schrade?

Post by woodwalker » Fri Feb 21, 2020 1:47 am

I need some help with a knife that is either a Camillus or Schrade. It looks to have a Camillus shield but I have been told it could have been made by Schrade. It is a 72 variation. Any help with my fellow knife enthusiasts would be appreciated. Thank you for looking. Any help on the age would also be appreciated. Thanks! :)

I believe it to be a Camillus. It is not a Schrade.

Roland, they did use similar shields on cattle knives and cigar jacks and such.

That's a Sears knife made by Camillus as the others said.

Roland's comment about the big shield made me think of another fat shielded Camillus. The shield they used on their Washington jacks was nearly as wide as the knife. I have a few of them including one of the contract knives for Moore Handley and it's the same shield on all of them. Makes it easy to pick 'em out of a line up when you're scanning the tables at the gun show. ::tu::

I gave one of those big ones away to a friend some years back. It was marked Boker, but I had heard that Camillus made them for Boker U.S.A.

It's surprising how many makers had Washington jacks. The ones I've gotten my hands on so far are Schrade, Camillus, Robeson, NYK, Empire, Boker, Southern & Richardson, Double Forge (a Japanese knock off!) and GEC which is the only modern one I have. There's more that I've seen pictures of but haven't found. Ulster, Utica and Binghamton come to mind on the not-found-yet list. I'm sure there are more brands I don't know about. The Camillus looks a little bigger than it actually is because of the angle I took the photo at. It measures right at 3-7/8".

I have two Bokers but they're newer 50s-70s I think. One of them is a Primble. These are big suckers up in the English jack neighborhood at around 4-1/2".
