First try at a chain.

This took a lot of my patience. Pretty happy with how it turned out being my first chain. I learned a lot from carving it. I was going to sand it but kinda like the rustic look of it. Hopefully the next one will be better.

Excellent Doug. It is an experience builder. And chains are good as you keep doing the same thing over. It also makes you think, 'how could I do this easier'? I like the rough look as well. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. Doglegs you said it. I broke the last two links to carve on it. But I'm glad I tried it. Some on suggested a drill with a small bit to remove some of the wood. But I wanted the experience of using just a knife. It would have been easier and quicker I'm sure.

I don't know what to say Doug, except I'm very impressed. Wish I had the patience to do something like that.

I know some folks pre cut the form and use a drill but as I'm not on a production schedule I enjoy doing it all with a pocket knife. I have one I started back in the summer that I need to complete.

nice job with the right tool. Flex Cut is real quality. I've thought about their multi blade pocket knife.

The chain is an interesting piece to make. For instance if you take an eight inch blank of wood to begin with and after you make all the links (as someone said “cut away everything that ain’t a chain”) and stretch the chain out your eight inch blank of wood has become about a ten inch chain.
Yep, for a first attempt, you are well along into your carving. I don’t even see any blood stains. Seriously, good job and enjoy your talent. SHC
