All About Pocket Knives

I have wanted an example of a Booth Bros knife for a while. This is the company that the Second Tidioute Cutlery Co. bought a sheriff sale and moved to Tidioute in 1909.

I was thrilled to see this listing on ebay, but when I "read" the knife. It yelled at me. I won't be bidding.

Now class. without even knowing anything about the Booth Bros operation other than it was at the turn of the century. Why wouldn't I want to buy this knife?????

This is so not funny, I want a Booth in the worst way and this piece of $^!* comes floating by , I don’t think I have seen many fakes as bad or obvious as this is , PA you know exactly what we are thinking and seeing here I will let others disassemble this farce. I see it is one of our friends selling this fantasy, if figures, this cheat needs a good swift .

Well, I know nothing of Booth Brothers, but those scales were definitely put on later (like last week) than 1909! IMO

i dont know anything about booth knives either but just looking at the knife, the scales look too good to be original compared to the rest of the knife and the B on the bolster looks like it was carved out or added.....doesnt look original, like it was done by the maker in other words. like i said, i dont know anything about booth but those are a couple of observations just from looking at the knife itself that might raise questions in my mind.

I know nothing about them either but to me the handles are a no brainer, but I agree with Steve that the B on the bolster also looks like it was done with a dremil. Maybe I am way off base.

To me the blades look like original genuine but factory unfinished blades, that sat somewhere in a pile and pitted up. The knife assembly and handle installation looks like it was done this morning.

Hello PA, Probably one of the many reworked knives that were in abundance until the 70's that you referenced in your very fine book. It is easy to see that it has been messed with.

Well as predicted your comments are all right on. In addition, one thing that I always look at first is if the condition of the blades match the handles. In this case, NOOOOOOOO. If one is hard on the blades, they are hard on the handles as well. The pearl is not the same as other from this era, the shinny bolster and poor "B" inlay are awful. Having coressponded with this seller in the past "before he quit speaking to me" for knowing his tricks, he mention that he got knives from J. Parker. Well if you read my book, you would know of the transistion from Booth to Atkins etc and the many sales of Atkins to Parker. There you have it, this is also the reason for all of this sellers JUNK from PA that he sells regularly for top dollar originals. I don't mind him selling them, I just wished he would be open about them not being originals. Of course then he wouldn't get top dollar.

There are other items that tell me this isn't original, but these are the most obvious for newbies to see.

hey mike, that is a recent knock off. booth bros. were made in new jersey not germany. seller is uninformed or a scammer.
