All About Pocket Knives

Would like to know if anyone has any information on a knife that I have.
Stag Handle, automatic, "Keen Tickler" on the blade, (between "Keen" and "Tickler" is a crane looking bird with it's beak holding "1900", the other crane's beak is holding the end of the "1900", Germany is marked on the opposite side of these markings.
The knife is 4-3/8" long closed and 7-7/8" opened.

Welcome to AAPK. I don't have the answer to your question...but someone smarter than me, will come along. It's a great looking knife!

Very knice looking Springer. Germany turned out some fine switch blades.

Kissing krane lever lock would be my guess.

The birds don't look like Cranes to me. Certainly not like those on a Klaas Kissing Crane stamp. More like geese or ducks? The rays over the 1900 (1908?) look similar to the rays on a Schlieper Eye Brand stamp.

Are there no marks on the tang or anywhere else besides the blade etch?

The same side as the etchings has the two birds with rays on top of them down near the tang, other side same spot has Germany stamped.

I got it off of a guy in 1983, held on to it since then.

Hubertus made a lot of those. Has anybody considered them?

I went through Anthony Carter's "German Knife and Sword Makers" page by page and could not find a mark that looks anything like this one, or any reference to "Keen Tickler". The index at the back has a list of makers that used a bird in their logo and I looked at the write ups for each of them, with no luck. Ray, the book says that Hubertus knives were made by Kuno Ritter. There is no mention of this particular stamp in the write up on them.

Just for info I sent an email question about this knife to the German Knife company and so far no reply back, but that was late Friday. So maybe sometime this week they might answer and I will share what I found out from them.

Just noticed this is your fifth post and no one has yet said to AAPK.
The German Knife company?, which one, there are many German knife companies?

never have heard back from the knife company in Germany. Any else have an ideals on this manufacturer?

You'll have to excuse my newness to the forum as well as my ignorance as I could have saved myself a lot of typing had I figured out how to put attachments onto my posts.

Welcome to AAPK, and thanks for the information. It indicates perhaps the name “Keen Tickler” originated with New York Knife Company. Only adds to the mystery though. Now we not only don’t know who made the German automatic, we don’t know how they acquired the Keen Tickler name!
