Etched rose on blade

Hi, I have something that looks like a big old bowie knife, The only marking on the blade is a etched rose without the stem. Any clue of the maker ect. any help would be great. Thanks

Thanks for your help jonet143, yes i think it could chop down a tree. it must way 3 pounds or so. Guess i will put it on ebay with my other stuff.
