All About Pocket Knives

Just watched a YouTube video by Case that shows the Pocket Hunter as the 2020 Vault Release.

Great! The Pocket Hunter is my favorite tiny knife because it reminds me of the stag Folding Hunter that was my work knife many moons ago. Also I prefer the blades in tiny knives all be full length because secondary blades are so small they are not good for much more than opening envelopes and cutting string.

Nice little knives but I don't see too many people posting pics of them.

I've got one of the single blade variants that my wife gave me for my birthday in 2008. Sorry for the horrible pic but it's the only one I've got.

For size comparison, here's my Pocket Hunter next to a Peanut.

I think Case could have come up with a better choice.

When closed copperheads run 1" to 1 1/4" longer depending on who made them. I wish Case would make competing knives by making their Mid-Folding Hunter a 2 blade slip joint but I have no reason to believe they ever will. Case's *249 CopperHead is a good knife but does not have the Folding Hunter shape and has never been made with the Folding Hunter's skinner second blade.

Wow railsplitter that's small, make a good envelope ripper, would look good on my shelf where some of my fingernail knives are, otherwise I'd just soon have a picture of a knife.ymmv.

Small knives do nothing for me, I think 3 1/2" is my cutoff.

I think it's kinda cute. I like it.

Well, that’s a waste! I could get like two full fingers on it. 3 1/2” is tiny enough.

I’m a big fan of Schlieper copperheads. I too wish CASE would make one similar with CV. But then again there are lots of old patterns I love that have been discontinued and I realize it isn’t feasible to make them all in today’s business climate.

Too small for me. And I’m not into cute. (Well, except maybe the Tadpole.)

Wish it was about 3/4 in minimum longer. Look like Case is trying
to resurrect a pattern that never was very popular. A lot of sales
may go to it not because of usefulness but " I don't have this in
my collection".

Thinking about trying the yellow one. The Schrade 106OT (basically a Minuteman with scissors) I am carrying now is the exact same length at 2 3/4" but is a serpentine penknife pattern. The clip and pen blades open at different ends. While the handle obviously appears fatter, I think it may be a little fiddly. I have a Sabre Japan Peanut but haven't carried it much at all.

But then again, I can get a more substantial (and actually usefully sized, and perfect at 3 5/8") for $5 less. So, I might just not go ahead just yet.

I like this pattern but to get a full-sized knife like this, I had to buy a Schrade USA 123OT, which are pricey.

Was kind of hoping for a different pattern to commemorate such an iconic year, 2020. They look nice but I am probably going to skip these. I do like smaller knives when it's on something else like a penknife or two blade congress. There are other two bladed knives I prefer more and have a stronger following, like the copperhead and gunstock.

I do believe this pattern will be a slow sell.. Nowhere near what the Barlow did.. CASE will once again bring this out with a billion different configurations..

Nothing wrong with the Schrade but I’m not sure why that would be necessary to get a full-sized folding hunter. Should have been easy to find a full-size Case Folding Hunter, which has been in continuous production for decades. http://www.casexx.com/Pattern/DisplayPa ... nAutoID=21 Case also has a “Mid-folding Hunter” that was introduced several years ago. Buck still makes some good ones too.

Pocket Hunter xx).

Probably will be available in several different materials and 1 or 2 blade models.

Tooling up a new pattern (which is what that would be) is expensive. What they’re doing here is for the most part probably just bringing some pre-existing tooling out of mothballs.

They’re already available to order http://www.casexx.com/Pattern/DisplayPa ... nAutoID=42 in both single and two-blade versions, and multiple handle cover variations.

Good question. I found this info that states that the Pocket Hunter was introduced in 2001 but it doesn't say if it's the single blade or the two blade model.

In contrast, I found a 61165 with a 2000 date stamp.

First manufactured in 2000 to be introduced early in 2001?

I have to love a pretty young gal that pulls a full size Folding Hunter out of her back pocket and proclaims it to be here every day carry. It's great showmanship but I doubt she sits on that knife all day.

I hardly need one but I'm toying with the idea of buying another Pocket Hunter. I was about to spring for red stag from Shepard Hills then I realized theirs only has one blade. Case is not displaying a two blade with red stag in that video either. Shepard Hills' $130 for abalone might be the best price it's ever offered at but I've not paid over $80 for a tiny knife. Besides, if I ever buy knives with abalone sides I want the first one to have big chunks of abalone to look at. I'm in no hurry. I can make it through the week with the Pocket Hunters I've already got.
