To answer your question we need to know about how old the knife you are interested in is. In Queen's final years they changed the default blade steel in Schatt & Morgans from 420HC stainless to 1095 carbon steel and made a lot of them as the Heritage Series. Those were routinely stamped Gowanda NY to remind buyers of Schatt & Morgan's history. They were not made in NY. They are common.

Thanks, MSJ. I'd been curious about that, too. And I have a question. Did the Queen S&M knives in the Heritage Series have the DFC stamp added after 2012, or so? The reason I ask is that I just got one from the Heritage Series (my first) that has the GOWANDA, N.Y. stamp only, so I assume it was likely stamped before Daniels Family Cutlery acquired Queen. I thought it was odd that it doesn't have any Queen or Titusville stamp.

There are old Schatt & Morgan knives marked Gowanda and modern Schatt & Morgan knives marked Gowanda. I don't know anything about the modern ones, but the old ones are quite rare. The older examples date from approximately 1896 to 1902.

I think the Heritage Series was introduced later in the time the Daniels owned Queen. The Heritage Series looked like an attempt to recover some market share by offering less expensive knives. When Queen started using the Schatt & Morgan name again about 1990 it was their premium line. The Heritage Series did not have the polished blades formerly expected on modern Schatt & Morgans. My one sample, a Stockman, is not stamped DFC. These are just my observations from looking at a lot of Queen made knives on evil bay. I'm not an expert.

Yes I do, but I'm a Cigar pattern collecter (this is a large Cigar 4 1/4") not a S&M collector.

I like 4 1/2" Queen English Jacks, 4 5/8" Queen Whittles and the very similar Case 6391 Whittlers. Their sides are not truly straight but their rounded ends and length should appeal to a cigar man.

Thanks again, MSJ. I noticed the blade polish but on my only one, the rest of the F&F is excellent. Maybe a fluke. I've not paid attention to Heritage Series S&Ms on you-know-where, but that's a good suggestion. Appreciate that.

I did not mean to imply that their assembly was inferior, just that Queen skipped the final polish. Some collectors prefer GEC's less expensive Tidioute brand because they do not want bight polished blades. The other thing that is different about the Heritage Series is that, to make them more accurate reproductions of early S&Ms, they have steel bolsters and liners or at least some of them do. Queen was inconsistent about everything. I read that they are iron but it is hard to believe a manufacturer would want their products rusting as fast as iron does. My one Heritage Series S&M is well fitted.

Be-in's how it is the 1st day of a New Year, (hopefully a better one!) I thought perhaps some pocket jewelry was in order!

So here is definitely a Gentleman's knife and I'm sure it was expensive way back then as now.

Beautiful Pearl, coined liners, fully sunk joints and a completely covered backspring!

While still in Gowanda S&M also made Shears and Razors.
I have not seen a Shear with a T-ville stamp but perhaps someone here might have one???

But I do know they continued to make Razors after there move to PA!
I found this Razor on the big auction site and was quite surprised at how little $ it cost to acquire it!
Both Razor and box look like it just came off the line within the last couple of years!!!
