All About Pocket Knives

I didn’t want to put this one in the ornament thread. But it is a chip carved cross he made for my grandmother. It’s around a foot tall.

Basically every recessed portion came out as 1 “chip” You can actually put them back into their spot like a puzzle. Pretty interesting to watch. But I never tried it.

The tough part is you have to keep track of where the point of your knife is inside the wood and the angle of the cut to make it intersect they previous cut.

Do it right and the chip pops out.

Great workmanship. I've watched it done at the Wood Carvers Round Up. A chip carving knife has a fixed very short and thin blade. Usually done on Bass Wood with a traced on pattern with a light gray carbon paper, which I use for pyrography. I/e wood burning using a Detail Master.
