Just shows what happens when a government is allowed to ban guns, they WON'T stop there. I do support the NRA 100%, even if I don't agree with everything that they back. Just like I don't see a good reason for assualt rifles other than the military, I will support the right of private individuals to own them. If they ban ONE, another one is one the list to be banned by the anti-gun moron's. You can write that one in STONE.

Maybe they will ban 2 x 4's next, or baby crib's because of infant death.

I'd really be mad if I lived over there. I don't collect swords, but that is a ridiculous ban. I mean seriously, you're going to ban bargain samuri swords from the entire country!? Don't they have some strict pocket knife laws as well?

Governments prefer unarmed peasants.......

That guy is one of the biggest dimwits on television. His voice alone is enough to drive me nuts! And the split tail they have on the program is certainly qualified to be a knife salesman, eh? It's 4:30 a.m. I just couldn't go to sleep thinking about this dire situation in the U.K. So....I think I might have a solution to help make Great Britain a much safer invironment.

I think they should also ban baseball bats, croquet mallets, golf clubs, golf shoes, pencils, pocket knives of ANY size, darning needles, automobiles, buses, motorcycles, bicycles, scissors, concrete foundation stakes, carving knives and forks, pointy toed shoes, high heeled shoes, hand saws, hack saws, wood chisels, table saws, jig saws, band saws, chain saws, axes, hatchets, exacto knives, ALL archery equipment, cricket wickets, badminton rackets, tennis rackets, hand ball rackets, barbells, dumbells, rope of ANY kind, any and all wire, staplers, nail guns, drafting compasses, metal rulers, nails, files, bolts over 3" in length, tooth picks, ice picks, shovels, rakes, post hole diggers, hoes, claw hammers, sledge hammers, drain cleaner, broom sticks, mops, skate boards, boats, water skis, show skis and poles, surf boards, steam irons, cast iron skillets, pots and pans, tweezers, razors, pliers, wire cutters, crescent wrenches, blow torches, acetelene and arc welders, tin snips, cement trowels, drywall trowels, tractors, road graders, back hoes, trench diggers, well drilling rigs, fork lifts, cranes, trains, amusement rides, shoe laces, rocks, plaster lawn ornaments, anything made of glass, spoons, dogs, stairs....and, lets see....did I leave anything out?

I see you covered the cricket wicket but what about the cricket bat? And since it is Great Britain we will have to ban soccer matches and one of the most destructive things in all of Great Britain.......................The Soccer Fan! No doubt soccer fans have caused more deaths in the last 10 years than samurai swords have caused in the last 100 years, even if you include WWII!

Being a amateur student of Western Philosophy, I have often wondered what in our philosophical history has made us so willing to blame ourselves for all of the world’s evils, such as poverty around the world, the conflict in the Middle East and even global warming?
Poverty was a fact of life for thousands of years before the United States was ever born.
The conflict in the Middle East goes back to the 7th century AD with the birth of Islam, a religion that includes warfare (Jihad) as a duty for the faithful. This happened long before the Americas were discovered even by the Vikings, and there has been violence in the Middle East ever since.
If Geology and other fields of science can be believed, the earth has been going through ice ages and warming periods long before man appeared here on this planet!

So it absolutely boggles my mind why we here in the Western World, (USA, GB and Western Europe), are so willing to accept the blame for these conditions that existed long before we were able to affect these things in any way, yet as a culture we are scared to death of personal responsibility! The defense that “it wasn’t my fault, I was drunk,” just doesn’t cut it in a court of law nor on a personal level. Yet we hear every day some form of “It’s not my fault”, from my grandkids to members of the US House and Senate.

Why is it that we will accept responsibility for things we have no control over, yet we won’t accept responsibility for things we actually do?

A gun, knife, or samurai sword are inanimate objects and as such are incapable of any action by themselves. To ban them thinking that it will stop crimes of personal violence makes no sense, but makes the politicians look good in the eyes of their constituents. It makes more sense to ban hands & feet to prevent violence than to ban an inanimate object such as a knife, gun or sword!

Following this train of reasoning Parliament will next ban the Atlantic Ocean to prevent drowning. I am sure more people drown in Great Britain each year than are killed by samurai swords!


OK, now my head hurts.
I am going to the shop and make a knife or two before the Supreme Court bands my sander because someone in BFE got a boo-boo on his little finger from a sander.

dewman, I think you covered everything except, the most dreaded weapon over there, the TOOTH BRUSH. Like Dale's reply, yours was very well put too. BTW Dale, what city is B. F. Egypt close too? I'd like to know because my Dad always wished me and my brothers would go there all the time, when we were kids.

We here in the states can gripe about it and poke fun at it and and talk about how insane it is. But that is all we have to do. Think about our knifer buddies like s-k who have to live with it. What else is sad is if we get the wrong people in charge of this GREAT nation........ we could be livin it too, and sooner than you think! Smoke

good words everybody. i have a close friend down under and they are following very closely in g.b.'s footsteps with weapon banning (firearms and edged tools) as they are still under brittish influence. who is next? i hope we don't turn into sheeple too.

A ban on things is not the answer. Take the VT shooting for example, VT was and is a GUN FREE ZONE. Do you think that nut that did the shooting was worried about a weapons violation? What if, and I know IF is a big word, one of the people on that campus, that day, was packing their own legal weapon and used it for defence? There may have been at least 1 less person that died that awful day. If there's a ban on anything it should be on CRIMINALS. Gunsmoke, your right. I feel that one day, not too long in our future, we are going to have to fight for our rights, down to every man, woman, and child. We have enough bans & laws now, if they were enforced. But, that's just my 2 cents about the subject.

I agree.

When I was working with Veterans, I had a job for 4 years, where I went into prisons and worked with Veterans who were getting out within a few years. That showed me that there is almost anything than can be made out of material at hand, up to and including guns, but most especially knives.

Interesting that Duffy mentioned the toothbrush. I have seen the end of a toothbrush handle sharpened on concrete to a nice point and then used to "stick" someone. Crude but effective and it can be fatal. I have even heard of a “shank” being made from Saran Wrap. The inmate heated it and melted layer after layer together and then managed somehow to temper the resulting length of plastic & sharpen it. It was quite effective.

So, if people thing they will ban crime by removing knives, think again! Criminals are criminals because they have errors in judgment and errors in thinking. If our schools could once again teach ethics, morals and how to think, we would not have the crime we do today. But until that day we can only pass more laws to ban more & more “dangerous” items and build more prisons.

Ya over in England they have liberal problems, it's like Hollywood. They banned hand guns also, seems to not have worked now only the bad guys have guns . When will countries learn that taking away freedoms does not solve the problem. Sometimes we even need to remind Americans of this FACT
ALSO from what I heard they cannot carry a knife over 3 inches long and it can't be any form of a lock blade. I thought a lock was for the safety of the knife operator. What's next kitchen knives
