All About Pocket Knives

When I got this 112 it had suffered the effects of grinder sharpening I sent it to Buck for a reblade and then added new handles of curly maple stained with Feibings leather dye and 6 coats of Tung Oil.

That turned out great, the maple is stunning!

I have a 112 that just looks like heck. Thought I could fix it (bad ding in blade), but the blade wear (50%+) is too much. Thus, probably after the first of the year, it will be going to Buck to get a new blade put in, along with a 1980s Camillus-made 303 that doesn't have a good grind, and isn't very sharp. It will probably be keeping the worn, but original ebony handles.

$10 for major work like that is a steal! Especially when it costs that much just to ship the thing.

I like to wait til I have I have at least three things to send in. To save on shipping. (Both mine and Bucks). They come back looking new. My favorite is the anniversary 110 with the broken blade. Tough to find a 110 with nickel silver and Macassar Ebony handles. For some reason nobody bid on it. I’m into it for under $30

Yes! Buck has the best warranty in the knife world! I've got three 110's there now getting new blades. I'll probably re handle one of them when I get them back. I want to try micarta this time.

Once you rehandle them, they may refuse to work on them again.

A project I’d like to see is to take apart an engraved aluminum 111 and add thick brass liners to make it as thick as a 110.

That'd be an interesting project but kinda heavy? I doubt Buck would take back a knife rehandle from an individual but I won't worry about it. With all the 110' s and 112's I have if I wear one out I'll consider it a bucket list item

I did it know that Buck would do this. I have a couple of knives I need to ship to them for repair.

I’ll second all said about their warranty! A better company to deal with you won’t find, and I’m not a huge buck knife fan, but credit where credit is due.

I wrote, a very nice btw, email to the company once about my disappointment that a chicom Buck I was given was SOOOOO much better made than a new 301 I bought at about the same time.

The next day the Vice President of production called me personally and they went way out of their way to make my 301 right, they made me a whole new knife.

Sorry to hijack the thread. But you can’t beat that with a stick. Byrd that’s a beautiful knife you have there.

I figure it would be lighter than a 110 and heavier but more durable than a 111. Maybe someday I’ll have time for things like that.


What color micarta are you thinking of? I have a burlap 110 I’m real happy with.

I'm thinking black. I already have it but am still undecided. I've never worked with it so I've still got some research to do! That burlap really makes that knife pop!

The warranty and repairs mentioned only apply to knives that are still in production. For instance, the older 300 series that were made by Schrade or Camillus cannot be repaired for lack of original parts. I did send in a small pen knife with a broken blade and they sent a new one out to replace it. It is best to call them first if there's is any question if they can repair a knife. Out of production knives can and will be replaced with current models, so if the knife has some special meaning to you, you might not get it back. I have sent several knives to them over the years, and they do an outstanding job, a first class warranty.
