DANIEL HERDER MULTI BLADE

Post by olderdogs1 »

Any one that can help I would appreciate replies. I am not familiar with this stamp. I have had several Herder knives but none stamped DANIEL HERDER. It came with a collection of old knives I recently purchased.

Thanks in advance ::tu::

Information from "German Knife and Sword Makers" by Anthony Carter: "Daniel Herder, Stahlwarenfabrik; Ohligs bei Solingen. Brand name: DAHERO. Trademark: a crown. Founded in 1810, this manufacturer of knives, pocket knives, scissors and cutlery was owned in 1900 by Emil Herder and widow Herder; in 1925 solely by Alfred Herder; and in 1928 by Alfred, Rudolf, Richard and Walter Herder."

The book that Dan refers to shows there have been 10 different German cutlery manufacturers with the name "Herder". The most well known and most highly regarded is "Friedr. Herder Abr. Sohn". They had many logos but the Ace of Spades and Crossed Keys are the most widely known.
The O.P. 'Herder' is a different company.

Tom, thank you for posting some German knives. I enjoy seeing them and some give me a chance to post what i might know about the brand. I have collected vintage German knives beginning with my first Ed. Wusthof knife when i was 12. However i don't know any brand in depth.
I am hoping there might be a few more that will need posting.
