All About Pocket Knives

This S&M #042206 EO Jack with ACSB measures 3 3/4" L folded. The pen is etched but has no tang stamp. The master tang has "SXM" over "Titusville" over "PA." on one side and "Queen Cut. Co." arched over "Titusville, PA" on the pile side, as well as I can tell. There is no "DFC" stamp. Also, there's no "D2" or "Queen Steel" or any hint that I see that tells what alloy was used for the blades. Are they ATS-34 or even 420HC? What are they made of?

I don't have your answer, Geo...but that's a sweet looking knife!

Unless you can find that knife listed somewhere in a catalog with the information, I'm not sure there is any way to know what type of steel it is. I've seen SxM knives listed with 420, D2, ATS-34 & 1095.

Queen usually marks their ATS-34 blades, most of the Keystone series was 420HC, IIRC.

I think Montanaman is right but for confirmation you might consider contacting Austin at traditionalpocketknives.com.

The "1 of 100" etch on the blade leads me to believe the knife was an SFO.

I found one just like yours in a Google Image search and it was an old listing from Austin's website. I presume this was an SFO for Austin's Grandfather, Clarence Risner before Austin took over the business and changed the name of the website. Austin might be able to confirm what the blade steel is.

I concur. If not marked ats-34 or D2 It's 420HC

Montanaman, I have a Keystone Jack that I know is 420HC & it isn't stamped.

Railsplitter, I've bought a few knives from him. I sent him an email a couple of days ago but I've not gotten a response. I still may.

I got a reply from Austin & he says ya'll are right. These are some of his words: "Yup the knife is a part of a series that includes a total of six knives; 3 buffalo horn and 3 acsb. Two single blade jacks, two two blade jacks, two easy open two blade jacks. Grandpa had them made in 2011 finishing in 2012 I believe. The steel used in those is 420 HC stainless steel."
