All About Pocket Knives

I was doing some trading with one of my good AAPK friends, and he wanted a single blade Wharncliffe for an EDC. He wanted one similar to some of the single blade jacks they had been making for myself. I had one candidate that I had already started work on although I hadn't shaped the blade to where I wanted it. He liked the blade where it was and gave me freedom to choose the color and the jigging pattern of the bone.

I love the shape of this knife, I think it will make a great EDC.

You are both right! I had begun this knife originally to be a Wharncliffe when I sent my friend the pictures he liked the blade as it was. I worked on in a little more, reassembled it and sent him pictures and he said he wanted the blade like it was. It never developed completely into what I would consider a full on Wharncliffe. It's not quite an original sheepfoot. I guess one could call it a transitional Wharncliffe?

That is gorgeous! A beautiful knife all the way around! Is that some Culpepper bone, or something that you made? I would like to put something similar on a knife.

Beautiful job Dale! I also like that bone with the deep jigging and the teardrop shape. I also like the blade shape just the way you left it. Maybe it should be named after you - perhaps the "Orvet Transitional"? Forgive me for being curious and nosy, but in the 5th picture in expanded view, maybe it is just a reflection, but it looks like an additional part on each side of the blade next to the liners. Is that some type of additional support for the frame, or just filling the empty space next to the blade or?? Thanks for showing this masterpiece and best regards. Herb

Rev - the bone is Mahogany American Standard according to the label from Culpepper. It looks different to me than any of the other American Standard jigging I have in stock. The jigging looks smaller to me than usually.

"Orvet Transitional"? - No thanks, it wasn't something I designed, just where I happened to have stop when I sent him the picture. He thought it was great where I stopped, so I didn't complete the work I had planned.

As for what appears to be extra support; I see it in the pic but it is just glare or reflection from the polished liners.
