My Dad's Hunting Knife -- A Gerber "Big Hunter"??

I just got my Dad's old hunting knife. It's a Gerber, and from my limited research, it appears to be a Big Hunter model. The handle is stamped "Gerber" with the Dagger. I'm interested in verifying the model and finding out what year it was manufactured. I know he's had it since I was a kid, born in the 50's. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The "Big Hunter" you have (it's a little confusing because Gerber called a different knife "Big Hunter" through 1959) was produced from 1960 to 1969. Judging from the sheath style and handle markings I would place the production of your Dad's knife as the early to mid sixties. Your knife has a carbon steel ("Hi-speed" according to Gerber's advertising) blade and aluminum handle. All is chrome plated. Keep the knife away from the dish washer as that appliance will quickly bubble the chrome. Enjoy the heirloom, I'll bet your Dad did.

Thanks to all for the information. I will, one day, be passing this on to one of my grandchildren. In the meantime, when they ask about it, as I'm sure they will, I can tell them more about it than to just say I thought it was cool. Thanks again.
