Bone slabs for a Joseph Rodgers folder

Hi Guys,
I have a Joseph Rodgers Stockman to re handle. Is the bone material it was originally made with available from knife makers supplies.
No one seems to cater for pocket knife repair materials down here in Oz.
My knife was a mint closet queen but a piece broke off between the bolster and a pin.
I understand that i will have to jig the bone slabs. I also read the the bone was originally sourced from South America. Does any one know why?
Is such bone slab available in US shops like Jantz and others?
Thanks
