All About Pocket Knives

Does anyone know the composition of old fiber knife scales? They seem amazingly durable. Are any used today in the manufacture of pocket knives?

My old Remington has fiber Handles, has a small crack and still holds together. Alot of un ansewered threads maybe it's just that it's Weds.
