All About Pocket Knives

This was a trashed Camillus TL29 I wanted to play with. I had some Elk shed I sliced with a hacksaw and re handled the knife. I didn't clean the blade much because it was pretty pitted. I kind of wanted an old used look and I think I accomplished that. I'm going to drip some CA into the crack, but I don't think it'll need it because it doesn't go all the way through. It's not bright and shiny but it's the look I was after.

I like it a lot.

Byrd, I really like the looks of the knife handle.
Have you figured out why the crack happened? Does the age of the shed, that is how long it's been out in the weather, have a bearing on its' stability? I've heard of folks stabilizing natural material some way with a small vacuum chamber, I figured they pulled a "hardner" of some sort into the pores.
It's amazing how the TL-29s can be turned into such great looking users.

Treefarmer, I've had that shed for years. It's been chewed on by mice & squirrels and really dried out. The crack probably happened in the aging process.

I've stabilized wood before. I used Minwax wood hardener, filled a jar with the hardner & the scale then put it in a pan of boiling water. It creates a vacuum and sucks the hardner into the wood. It works pretty good but you have to watch it because the hardner is flammable.

It may appear to be an ugly duckling, but it's really a swan in disguise which is what you will find out the first time you use it. They are very good knives!
