All About Pocket Knives

I had been dealing with several family issues, etc., and had not been able to get out and spend any time in the shop for a couple of months.
So I was excited to take up a small project that I had started two months prior - putting on some Himalayan Ram Horn scales.
I got them glued last weekend, then today hafted and drilled holes for the pins.
I was putting the brass wire into the handles, and HAD NOT YET STARTED PEENING IT, when a chunk broke off!
I must have drilled right through a natural crack in the horn.
I have a couple more pieces, but I am so disgusted with this right now that I am considering taking them off and going with something else entirely. Something lighter colored, maybe.
Anyway, a new day, a new adventure!

Well, that sucks swamp water through a flavor straw. I like that ram's horn for handles. How do you feel about epoxying the piece back in? Or is it one of those deals where even if you couldn't see the repair, you would always know it's there?

I'm with Jerry...I might see what epoxy looks like. There's so many lines in rams horn...it would probably be hard to see.

I agree with trying epoxy. That horn is rough enough that you probably couldn't tell...but YOU would always know!

Use super glue rather than epoxy. It holds well on a good joint in ram horn.
Be advised, ram horn shrinks-badly.

I could try glueing the piece back, as this is for an EDC project for myself. I just got too frustrated, I guess. I will decide on something, and hopefully post pictures of a finished project soon.

Well dog gone Reverand... I sure hate to see something like that happen. When it happens to me, I have to walk away for a while before I come back to it.
Hang in there. Whatever you decide, that knife will be a lot better than the day you got it when you are done. It needed your help so give it some love. That is what matters most.

I’m with Mike, when this happens (and I think it happens to everyone once in awhile), I have to walk away. I’d yell at the knife, throw a few select cuss words at it and come back to it on another day! Please note that cussing has no direct impact on project knives but it will make you feel better for a minute or two anyway!
If you’re keeping it for yourself I’d try glueing it and see how it looks. Super glue when polished is darn near invisible so it’s worth a try.
