In the market for a new knife....

Hey yall. I'm lookin' to get a new pocket knife for EDC, nothing bigger than 3 1/2 inches, as thats the size I already carry. At first I was going for a Trapper, but I have no need for a pocket knife that big, and I'm a sucker for Stockman's. My first real PK was a Uncle Henry Stockman. I still have it and it still serves me well. What I'm looking for is a Case Medium Stockman. I an undecided as to which one to go with, but I really like the Harvest Orange, but I'd like a CV blade. Thats what I want to know. How good is the stainless steel they are using nowadays? I know my grandads Amber Bone Stockman is almost razor sharp, and it is SS. Any reviews or replies would be greatly appreciated.

Here ya' go. This one gets my vote, I carry one alot of days like this but Natural handles and you cant beat the look of a long clip blade. With a Lansky, I get the SS sharp enough to shave a packing peanut paper thin with one stroke, ever tried that? It's a good way to test sharpness, a blade that will pop hairs will tear a packing peanut.Hope this helps.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I really love the look of the Harvest Orange handle, but like I said I was wondering if CV would have been a better choice to go with. When I sharpen my knives, I mainly tell if it is sharp by lightly touching the blade with my thumb....not rubbing acros the blade, just lightly feeling the edge. I also test it by push cutting through paper. Also, besides that cutlery dealer, do yall know of any other good ones online? I mainly do my transactions with SMKW.

If you really wanted cv and if the Harvest Orange doesn't come wth it, you could buy a cv knife and have someone change the blades for you.
Personally, I'd stick with the ss, since you already have it.
SS is usually my edc.

The mini-trapper is much more my style as well. I carry a medium stockman (but by Queen) and really like the size of it.

Hi Georgian,
Case is making a new pattern equal end medium stockman. I think the pattern number is 63090. It is 3 3/8" long, a little shorter than the 3 5/8" pattern 6318. CHECK IT OUT. I kinda like the small"cigar" shape. Don't know what colors it comes in but I think the steel is only SS.
