Kabar T33 Completed

I took a while but I finally got the T33 back together. For future reference if you ever take one of these apart be sure to keep the springs with their respective blades. Otherwise it becomes a sort of Chinese puzzle and you'll spend a bit of time trying to figure out which one goes where.
I had originally worked with some bone colored linen Micarta but when I had to cut new outer liners for this knife I decided to try some acrylic faux MOP. It looked nice but cracked at one of the pin holes during re-assembly, so I scrapped it and went back to the Micarta.
Here's the knife roughly assembled to check the fit;

Pins peened into place;

I did some hand sanding and power sanding to get the handles to match the liners;

It still needs a little cleanup but for now it can sit on the shelf and take it easy.
The knife required two new brass liners, two new nickel silver bolsters, new nickel silver pins throughput and two new Micarta handles. Oh, and the use of some pretty choice swear words during re-assembly to get everything into place!
Its not perfect but its a whole lot better than it was;

Hmmmmm is that kin to what us southerners call cuss words?....LOL

That is a real beauty... you did a great job. Thanks for pointing out the pit falls.
(I have been looking around for another one of these to show up) I need one for my collection. You made me want one! It's all your fault!

Okay, I’ll take the blame!
There’s another T33 on E-bay right now but it’s $40 (BIN I believe) It’s in my watch list but I can’t convince myself I need another one (Yet). Fishing knives with gaff hooks are definitely an odd configuration but Im attracted to them for some reason. There’s an Ulster traditional fishing knife on E-bay too also with a gaff hook. I may “need” that one. LOL! It never ends.

My mistake, it’s not BIN, it’s a $40 opening bid but no-one is currently bidding on it. It’s definitely outgassing but I can’t tell from the pictures if it’s better or worse than the one I bought for a bit under $40. It’s here if you want to take a look;

Yep, I went out there and looked at that one. I had to reel myself back in though. I burned up my little sample band saw so I just ordered another one. SO, I have to let my pocket book recover from that before I can purchase myself a T33. I think I like the T33 design best because of the fat bulb part of the handle that MIGHT keep you from giving to a fish while gaffing....LOL.
Feel free to go get that one on the bay. It looks like a nice one. I think I noticed it had a small cracked spot on one handle. I'm sure you saw that.
I enjoy fixing things more than just owning them.

:D

Jeff, that turned out great!

For the record...this is where she started... viewtopic.php?f=37&t=63229&p=750264#p750264

I like fishing...don't do it enough...and when I do; don't catch anything big enough to gaff! It's certainly a very cool looking knife ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::
