All About Pocket Knives

Hello everyone,

I’m just starting to get back in to slipjoints and I have found one I really like, but not sure what it is exactly. Anyone have any info on this one....

I think it’s a 1987... maybe burnt bone... maybe tobacco... I just don’t know if it’s worth what the guy is asking because I don’t know anything about it and can’t find anything on it. Help!!!

Welcome to AAPK! Looks like second cut bone to me. I'm no expert though, especially on post-1980 knives.

I once had a Case Humpback Whittler with "Burnt Oats" handle slabs. I'm pretty sure that's what it was called. They looked a lot like your handle slabs but not exactly the same.

Thanks for the welcome! I’ll look up what second cut bone means(I’m a bit of a slipjoint newbie). Thanks for the info!

It does look similar, but still a little different. I went ahead and picked it up, just because I really liked the look of it. Hopefully can find more about it soon. Thanks!

It's 6 something. Blew it up to 300% but can't get it to focus well enough to read the rest of the pattern numbers.

With any luck, the knife will come with its original box and the handle material mystery will be solved by the label on the box.

During the 1980s Case did haft with a second cut of stag sliced off after the top layer with bark went to a more expensive knife but this Congress has bone with a jigging pattern Case named Second Cut. That's why the first number is 6. It is intended to look similar to real second cut stag. For bone decorated this way Case sometimes used the prefix SC. I own a SC6447 four bladed three spring Stockman with the same bone that was made a few years after this Congress. The fourth reply to page 31 of the thread Ode to the 07 has good pictures of a SC6207 Mini-Trapper with Second Cut jigged bone that matches this Congress' bone. viewtopic.php?f=66&t=52911&start=450

While 6488 Congresses usually sell for substantially more than similar size but more common Case patterns like 6375s the pin crack on the left end of this Congress' mark side will negate that some what. However, it is a good looking Congress.

Railsplitter nail it, I think. I remember from reading a copy of "Collecting Case Pocket Knives" that they had a bone called "Toasted Oat's". Not sure about second cut. But yours sure does look like "toasted oats" to me. Sure looks good on that congress!

I'm pretty sure what you have is pattern # 64052. The bone looks like 2nd cut but I don't see SC in front of the pattern #. I think the bone color is what is called "Burnt White". Hope this helps you out.
