All About Pocket Knives

Bill Horn, on his web site warns about the addictive nature of knife collecting. I foolishly ignored his warning and being “enabled” by my two knife-collecting sons, began buying knives. It wasn’t long before I also came under the influence of other “enablers” such as Jim Davidson, Greg Holmes, Derrick Bohn and Mike Latham, all skillful purveyors of collectible cutlery. It took only a few months to amass a closet half full of knives. I decided it was time for “the cure”. A Google Search found no “Knife Collectors Anonymous”. I proceeded to use the same technique I had used 40 years ago to quit smoking. After having quit several times and relapsing, I laid down my cigarette package on a restaurant table and never smoked again. Using the same technique last week I refused an offer from Greg Holmes to buy a new GEC Knife and my Cold Turkey approach began. It’s been almost two weeks now and I have bought no knives. I plan to take a half dozen knives out of my closet each week and display them prominently. I'm hoping this will ameliorate the craving to buy more knives.

Good luck BigDon! But, I personally think you need another knife!!

Don't listen to um BigDon, You are breaking new ground here!! If you can actually do this then maybe just maybe there is hope for someone like me.

Big Don Don, I've told you before, I don't believe there is any cure for knife addicts. No 12 step program, no medication for obsessive compulsive knife buying, no amount of psychotherapy is going to help. Each knife is unique in it's own way and seems to call to us in our mind....buy me. I admire you for your courage to come forward with this announcement, but it really is only a matter of time before you fall off the wagon.

But why would I want to "kick this habit"?????

So if you do, can I have all your knives???

I just had to post to this. PA is correct when he says you should give him all the knives!!! I heard somewhere that in a 12 step program you nedd to stay clear of PEOPLE, PLACES & THINGS are going to bring you back to your old behavior. So that means give PA all your knives except for any New York knives. PA would not appreciate them anyway and send them to me. You might also try and delete this forum and any others that even talk about knives.

I wish you luck, but than again why stop in the first place.

Drugs. Alcohol. Cigarettes. Those are all unhealthy. Unless you are very careless, knives are harmless. In fact they are very helpful in many ways.

There is no cure. But there is no need for a cure!

I agree with OK. I thoroughly enjoy this state of blissful denial.

You guys are funny! The best part about collecting knives is the folks you meet along the way. I must say I have not been at it long but I've yet to meet or hear from a clinker. There may be some around but I've been spared.

You should all know that I'm curently bidding on two eBay auctions. My top bid is sufficiently low to insure failure or, if by some miracle I"m successful, I can flip it.

Gary, even then it is not a problem, unless you are picky about the brand and handles on the knives imprinted on your bedspread.

I just started knife collecting and should have taken the advice of Bill Horn who warns on his web site about the addictive nature of same.

Now wait a second guys. If he's going to give any of his knives away his is going to give them to the guy that go him started...His beloved son. After all it is a son's duty to help his Dad break an addictive habit. Right Dad?
