All About Pocket Knives

Well I've bidded on a Queen coke bottle on flea-bay. It's unused with a fair blade. Not too shiny and quite a few scratch marks on it but, it's the long pull type that I like. It's also got yellow comp. scales but, it has a crack in one side right at the pin and runs all the way to the edge of the scale. I don't like that about it. I've never owned a large Queen knife before. But I want to check out the D2 steel in it. I'll post more about it if I win it and try it out. I do know if I win it, that it's going to get re-handled. That cracked YELLOW has got to go. Cross your fingers for me. Thanks.

That sounds like a single blade large swell center....hate to tell you but its not D2.

Queen started using D2 in 2002. The pattern that you won was discontinued in the mid 90's. Oddly enough while Queen's entire product line at that time was made with 440A blades, the 83A "Jumbo" as they called it was the only knife in the line with 1095 blades.

The D2 steel has been used with knives handled in carved stag bone (now discontinued), amber carved stag bone, birds eye maple, cocobolo (now discontinued), winterbottom delrin, jigged cherry delrin, and smooth cherry delrin (all discontinued)....and a few pearls. There are also the Country Cousin sodbusters in yellow and black.

Thanks Johnnie for the good luck wish. Knifeaholic, I thought the knife was D2 but, hey I like carbon really well and I can live with that as well as the cracked handle. It's going to be a EDC user for me anyway if I do win it. I don't own any Queen knives. Well let me put it like this, I probably do own some Queen made knives but they have different names on the tang stamp, right. I thank you though Knifeaholic for bringing me up to speed on the steel in the knife. If it wasn't for folks like you alot of use green horns would be in the dark. That old saying is true, you learn something every day, and I did today.

Duffy, I saw one of those Queen 83A yellow synth Cokes at a Feed store yesterday. In Queen box with 83a label, tang indicated it was a 92 or 93.
Knife needs cleaning but I don't recall any pin cracks on that one. Only other Queen in the case was a 39A big stockman with same handles and it had center pin cracks on both sides! Which ever year tang the Coke had, this one was the other. One 92 one 93, just can't swear in court which was what.

Owner has been out of town last week, so I'm waiting til he gets back to ask about some others he has. I may ask about the 39a as a rehandling candidate, but he may not want to "get right" if it's sat there this long. Who Knows??

Actually I have 2 of the yellow 83A's that are new in the box. They have some rubs in the middle running lengthwise of the blade where the blade is thicker but other than that they are mint.

Also have the same type knife - 041983's 2 of them as well that are the Schatt & Morgan new in the box and definitely mint. Bone handles.

Well Johnnierotten, your good luck wish helped...I won it I think it was worth $17.50 . I'm going to use it when it gets here. If it passes the A+ steel test, I think I'll send it to MM so he can doll it up and give it some good looks to go with the muscle.
