Is there a way to loosen up the handles that open up a Leatherman ? I know using them over time probably does , I have some older ones that all flip open easy , just got a NOS Pulse , its pretty stiff, is there a special wrench or socket that fits the little notched bolts or what ever they are that go through the handles into the tools ??

I have a Leatherman Surge and the screws on this one take a T10 Torx security bit . If you look carefully at yours, see if the screws have a pin sticking out right in the center of the recess. This takes a special Torx bit if yours has that. They are like a regular Torx bit, but will have a hole in the center of the bit to allow the bit to enter the recess. You can buy these Torx security bits at most Ace Hardware as individuals or if you have a local Harbor Freight, they have a set. Be aware that if you loosen them, there may be a danger that they would work out with use and become lost.

Use lock tite when setting screws

I hope cbnutt does not mind me expanding his question. I'd like to replace the serrated edge blades in my old Wave and Charge with regular straight edge blades. I strongly dislike serrated edges. It appears that since the knife blades pivot out of opposite sides of different plier handles they should interchange. Old Wave blades of course do not interchange with new Wave + or Charge blades. Where are instructions for disassembling then reassembling Leathermans? I can not even find multi-tools in AAPK which is a shame since they are fairly popular. While multi-tools are not my main interest they do have their purposes.

First the obvious answer, which you’ve probably tried already - have you applied some lube to the joint? A drop of Quick Release oil worked into the joint can work miracles.

As for cutting into the fingers, I use my Leatherman for short-term emergency situations. I love my Leatherman but it’s not a good long-term substitute for the right tool for the job. It’s handy as h**l for a quick short term fix but if it’s going to be a real job I go get the right tool or tools for that job. Or if possible, take the item needing work to the shop. And probably just me and my situation, but I’m rarely without a pair of gloves.

Kind of like all of the new fangled wallet tools with different size screw drivers and for metric nuts. How do you get enough leverage to repair a bicycle on the road? I have two Gerber that I like better. One was Coast Guard issue. Bob
