Does anyone know what years the Buck 117 & 212 Fixed Blades were first introduced?

2018. For both. I believe. Although the 212 is based on an old discontinued design.

The Buck 117 Small Brahma came out in 2016 and sold for $100.00

The Buck 212 LE Ranger came out in 2018 and listed retail at $350.00

Anytime Rick. I think you'll like that 212 Ranger. What I don't understand though is, it appears very similar to the Buck "100" Series knives but it starts with a "2". I wonder if they started a "200" Series.

Good question. I assume it's because the 212 Ranger is considered a fixed blade version of the 112 Ranger but I don't know that for a fact.

I forgot about the Brahma version from 2016.

The 212 Ranger name and number make no sense to me either. There is also a 113 Ranger Skinner.

The interesting thing about the 212’s to me is the selection of steel used. The phenolic is 420hc. Some of the others are W2 or D2.

My 212 with Jigged Buffalo horn. It’s a great knife to use. W2 steel patinas so nicely.

Luckily I am not into the modern Buck designs. So my collection is pretty focused. I keep thinking I am done. Every once in a while they come out with one that fits a set I have. So I have to get it.

The 212’s came out of no where and stole my heart.

Thanks. It’s a different grip for a Buck knife. Relatively thin and tall. More rectangular than the standard roundish. For some reason it’s not as grippy as you would think.

I fear that I might be headed for a similar experience. I'm not really into fixed blades but the 212 has such perfect proportions that after seeing them, I couldn't resist ordering one. It will be my first Buck fixed blade. Ever.

If I like the 212 as much as I think I will, I can see myself getting a few more and making this base model a user.

Glad you guys are "feeling the Buck Knife" and joining the club. Buck fixed blades are solid knives, I bought the base model 212 because it matches my 100 series collection. I've been carrying the 212 around with me - thinking it will be a good boat knife - cut bait, line, etc. to supplement my Buck 121 Fisherman for filleting fish. OH

OH. Those models do compliment each other very well. One long slender and thin. The other short stout and beefy. Two of my favorites.

Comparison photo of Buck fixed blades - all straight blades with clip points (T-B: 120, 119, 117, 212, 102). I do have a couple of the Buck 124 and one could be in the picture but I left that model out due to handle design; I need to find one of the vintage 124 Frontiersman with the 100 series Phenolic handles. OH

My two selected Buck "Boating/Fishing" knives together. Big difference in blade thickness of the old 121 Fisherman vs. the 212 Fixed Ranger. Noticed that both models use the same numbers, just moved! OH

Some vintage advertisements. The 1948 ads show the heritage of the Buck 212 (the original 112)- not a new design for Buck Knives! OH

I found one right here not too long ago from Muskrat Man. Pre-86 Tang Stamp. Excellent shape too, including the sheath. I snatched that up double quick.

Thanks for that info OH. I had no idea that the 112 started out as a fixed blade. That puts an even more interesting twist on how Buck came up with 212 for the current model number.

Great posts OH. I love the thinness of the fisherman too. Great user for sure. Like I said before. The old 121 and the new 212 really compliment each other well. Two of my favorite users for sure. Perfect 3rd knife is the 124. You’d be ready for anything.
