All About Pocket Knives

Howdy!
Looking for some good references besides the great AAPK forums.

I’ve been on the fence ref collecting for a few years, but since I acquired my Dad’s few Remingtons, I’m looking at continuing his work. Mainly interested in Trapper/TrapperLock and Jack patterns, which are made in the US

Welcome to AAPK. You probably know more about Remingtons than I do but I'd love to see photos of what you've got. Others would too I'm sure & what's even better, several people on here can answer about any question you can come up with. You've come to the right place.

Are you talking about original Remington knives, or reproductions? Don't understand the "which are made in the US" part.

Sorry ref my knowledge so far, however the models my Dad has were all all follows, and acquired through trades or purchased from SMKW during the early to mid 90’s

Here’s the list as I have researched so far...I’ll get pics out later....Unsure if these are repro’s (how do you ID that?)

The originals were only made 1920-1940 or thereabouts.

Welcome to AAPK Ed. As has been said, we’d love to see some pictures of your knives. From your description it sounds like what you have are the authorized Remington reproductions made by Camillus beginning in the early 1980s. They’re quality knives, copies of the originals made by the old Remington company in the 1920s and 1930s. During that time Remington made hundreds of different patterns, both folding and fixed blades - some of the finest quality cutlery ever made in a mass production factory.

Camillus was authorized by Remington to reproduce some of those patterns, and did an excellent job. Significant differences between those reproductions and the originals include the use of Delrin instead of natural bone for handle covers, and stainless steel instead of the original carbon steel used by Remington.

A good reference book on Remington including both the originals and the reproductions is Remington Knives Past and Present by Roy Ritchie and Ron Stewart.

Consider pursuing the old, original knives. The quality of the old knives is superb and far beyond the repros.
I'd personally rather have one nice older example than a handful of the newer stuff.
