All About Pocket Knives

I want a blade with a very light pull, yet a really large single blade, of st lest 3.7 inches or bigger. Is there such a thing?

I'm assuming you already know...but didn't want to take it for granted. There are still a lot of nice #97's, their nail nick placements help with the lighter pull. Most have the clip blade...not sure if they make one with the spear point.

The closed length of the knives below fit the 3.7 to 4 inch parameter. If you want the blade to be 3.7 to 4 inch, then these are probably short.

The Tuna Valley branded knife shown was made by GEC. Not sure what the pattern number is (72?). A lock back example would probably have the lightest pull.

Thanks. I have the 97 with the clip point and love it. Hoping for something a bit bigger and with a spearpoint.

I had no idea that Tuna Valley was made by GEC. Good idea about the lockback being a lighter pull. That had not occurred to me to think of it that way.

Folding hunters have plenty of blade, but most are clip blades. There is an Imperial with one of the blades being spear. It has a linerlock for the spear blade, very cool. I happen to have a mint one for sale. Otherwise, they only large spear blade folder I can think of is the Schrade 51OT Big Timer. That is a lockback with a spear blade about 3.5 inches long and very deep. The difference between 3.5 and 3.7 inches is rather small. The hunters go a little over 4 inches on the blades. Your specific requirements call for a rather narrow field. Good luck!

Cal, i have not seen that Imperial before. Very neat with a full size Spear Point for secondary.

I appreciate all the input. At this point I am starting to think that there may not be a knife that meet all the criteria on my wish list. I have been a real knife guy for over 50 years and the only spearpoints I have seen have never been that big, if memory serves.

The only thing that comes to mind are old Sheffield English dirks.

There is a Schlieper Eye Brand single blade knife listed in the "Knives For Sale" forum that is stated to be 5 1/2" closed with a Spear Point blade. Blade length not stated but would be over 4".

The Enhlish dirks are usually lockbacks so they don't have a heavy pull.

#65 Ben Hogan 4 1/2” closed. Some had spears. If you find one on eBay be prepared to pay dearly. At that point though, you’re almost into custom territory and could get precisely what you wanted.

Thanks for the information. My budget definitely has limits so I may need to adjust my criteria or simply try a different brand.

The 2009, 2010, and some of the 2012 Tuna Valley knives were made by GEC. From mid-2012 until 2018 they were made at the Queen Factory. There were a few different Tuna Valley brand knives that meet your requirements, but none by GEC. These were Queen made knives, so they were probably also made with a Queen stamp, in which case the cost would be less, but the pattern/blade the same size.

I have bought some wonderful Schatt & Morgan 3 1/2" to 3 3/4" single spear blade knives on Evil bay. Be patient , the perfect knife for you will pop up at a good price. GEC will make more on the future. There are so many great folder knife makers , it is foolish to pay some Evil-bay seller $200+ for a $90 knife . A hand made knife can out do GEC. Get a knife maker to build a saddle-horn spear blade 4" to 4 1/2". That is what I have planned to do. I even bought some master grade KOA fiddleback wood from Hawaii. I have dreamed up a knife that GEC will never think of making. I will have 42 GEC knives soon. I have one arm and I need the best knife for me. "blade addiction" GEC is throwing too many two blade knives down our throats . I need to go custom.
