All About Pocket Knives

I recently picked your brains about what to do with this Camillus 67. It was missing the back scale. This was my first time to use jigged bone. I used Culpepper Amber Aberdeen. The hardest part (with my tools) was thinning the bone from the base side. I figured if I placed it, without thinning it, the hafting process would get rid of a lot of the jigging. I held the bone, on the side of a grinding wheel, by hand. Fortunately bone grinds away pretty quickly. This was also my first time with a pinned shield. I didn't have a 1mm drill or 1mm nickelsilver wire...so I made it 1.5mm. I didn't do a very good job, of making many of the pins "disappear"...but I figure that will help the next guy find them
I plan to give this to my son,for his birthday. I haven't done a knife for him, since I've started playing around with them. He is in the Navy. We will be going to see him, in September. He is an x-ray tech, assigned to the USS George Bush...out of Norfolk, Virginia.

Hey Doc - I think it turned out pretty nice and your son should be very happy with it.

I'm with you. I like to have as much of the jigging left as possible afterwards. That to me is the difference between the newer manufactured knives and the ones manufactured in the old days.
