you should gently remove the dirt for a better view of the knife. why do you suspect a limited edition swiss army knife? the leather was probably a sheath. what is the handle material. can anything be seen on the blade or is it too rusted? where did you dig it?

My first thought, but I need to see more. Johnnie is right about removing the dirt. Can't really give it an age or make.

Definitely cut that sheath, or knife purse, whatever it is, off of there. It's completely destroyed and is only accelerating the destruction of the knife. Once you get it off you may be able to see a tang stamp at the base of the blade. If that's too corroded, the bolsters might have a stamp as well.It does look like a delrin handled barlow but the style doesn't ring a bell with me just yet as far as a maker.

I'm gonna guess an ulster "Old Timer" barlow with sawcut delrin that was in a sheath at the time someone lost it. I'm also curious why you would think it was a limited edition?
