The words I'd use to describe my dislike for your statement cannot be used on this site. I believe that anyone that intentionally harms a dog has a special place in hell waiting for them..right next to the pedophiles....and with a mindset like you just displayed I'm sure there is a place reserved for you.

I was going to inquire about the tang stamp but but on second thought I believe l’ll pass.

I was hoping for an answer as well. I have seen the "Pit Bull" and "Pitt Bull" markings on relatively recent knives. I think they somehow are connected to Bull Dog knives but would like to actually know.

Indeed ! If I may take a stab at this - Ken probably doesn’t like aggressive breeds. I don’t either - it’s a very polarizing topic - we have a problem pit bull in our neighborhood - if it ever gets loose and starts towards my dog (and I can’t get him in the house first) - first thing I’m doing is heading for my gun safe. I am a dog person through and through - however I have zero tolerance for aggressive breeds that for no reason threaten other dogs or especially children.

The thrust of this post was never explained. I would like to know what the confusion is. I made my original post on the assumption (which I do more than I would like to) that mariacrow44 doesn't know the difference between a Pitbull and a Bulldog. On further reflection, that may not be true at all because the OP was never fleshed out. So now I'm confused.

I agree Jerry, I've been around pit bulls that are great with children and were very loving dogs. If you train a dog to be aggressive then that's what you will have. I wouldn't want to piss a pit bull off. They have tremendous strength in those jaws!

The people in the upstairs apartment have three of them (Pit Bulls). They're not trained well. They do their business in the yard (it's a really small yard) so I'm dodging presents when I mow (not always successfully) and they used to bark constantly. Her response to my complaint was, "They're dogs. They bark. That's what dogs do." A call to Animal Control convinced her otherwise. They are high energy dogs and very frisky but all three are friendly sweethearts. I have no fear of being bitten. I just wish they were better disciplined but that's not the dog's fault.

And therein lies a lot of the problem.
I walk around a pond almost every day. Lots of people walk their dogs there. They must be on a leash.
Twice last year I was approached by aggressive dogs on a leash. The owners let them get way too close to me. One nipped my fingers as I was guarding my leg. He didn't bite me hard. I was protectively vocal, yelling; whoa! whoa!
Both dog owners got out of there and didn't say a word. I was noticeably pissed. I couldn't get over the fact that both dogs were aggressive right as I approached them from a head on direction and they let them approach me.
These are two entirely different incidents.
I like dogs. I like dogs alot. It's the reprehensible putz on the other end of leash that needs an education.

I like bull dogs of all kinds ,but it takes a person willing to spend the time in training one. Their not for every one . Like having a loaded gun all the time. They may not bite the guy next door or his kid but he'll damn sure kill his cat !!

FRJ-you got it in one, most of the time-it is the clown that owns the dog. Most, not all, but most dogs are not savage by nature, they just want to be your mate.

I've got a Border Collie, have had several of this breed in my lifetime. this one though, she's really somethin. she comes from a Welsh line of working dogs. her grampa was Imperial Flyer, he's a straight up legend. now, my dog, all she wants to do is herd. it don't matter what, kids, birds, cats, she'll herd anything she sees. that's because she was bred to herd. no matter what else she learns, she's a herder. it's some pretty simple science and biology once you get down to tacks. ya feel me...

p.s. I'll bet I know what "not a dog" was bred to do too...

Maria, I can't answer your question but thanks for you perseverance. Maybe someone will be along with an answer. I'm curious too.

Have you ever noticed that you never see a Pit working as a police dog, or attack dog. They use Shepard's, Rottweilers, Filas because those breeds are naturally aggressive toward humans. Pits on the other hand are naturally aggressive toward other animals and loyal to a fault to there owners. They are one of the few breeds that will fight another animal to there own death trying to protect their owner where as most breeds will quit once they are injured.The "not giving up" is what is refereed to as "being game". I agree with what most of you have said, I don't care if it's on two legs or four, if it intends to do me or mine harm, I'll shoot it. I've owned Pits and Pit mixes most of 30 years and there is one thing none of you have mentioned. I'm a responsible owner and train my dogs, never do any aggression training toward humans, and always walk them on a leash. I can't count the number of times I've had to grab my dog and lift him off the ground because some idiot is walking their dog without a leash and that dog comes running up to my Pit barking. It's not the dogs fault and I'd hate to see it get hurt. So it's not just the Pit owners that need to be responsible, it's all dog owners that should spend a little time training and working with their dogs. Not all Pits are problems for other people and to have an attitude that they should all just be shot just gets under my skin.

As to Bulldog knives,

Bulldog Brand Knife History This is a little dated and was probably written around 2010

Charlie Dorton had the first Bulldog Brand Knife produced in 1978 in the Friedrich Olbertz Factory in Solingen West Germany. Bulldog Brand Knives are still produced in the same factory. Bulldog Knives have five important periods in their existence; collectors refer to them as different generations.

First Generation. 1978 – 1987; Thirty two different patterns were produced. Out of 32 patterns came 469 styles. A Bulldog Brand Knife Collectors Club was formed in the early 1980’s and a number was assigned to each knife as it went to a customer. There were no Bulldog knives shipped into the United States from late 1987 to 1992.

Second Generation. 1991 – 1992; Jim Parker purchased the Bulldog Brand Knife Company. In 1992 the Olbertz factory shipped about 7,000 Bulldog knives to the USA. Later, some knife parts were purchased from Blue Grass Cutlery to complete additional Bulldog knife sets.

Third Generation. 1993 – 1995; 17 new knife patterns were ordered from the Olbertz factory and 5 new handle materials were introduced. Oyster Shell handle material and Lady Leg knives were introduced in this year. The third generation knives ended the era of the two “Fighting Dogs” stamp.

Fourth Generation. 1996 - Early 2000; Jim Parker commissioned an artist to draw “Lucky” Mrs. Parkers purple ribbon bred American Pit Bull Terrier. This drawing appeared as the new Bulldog Knives trademark in 1996.

Fifth Generation. 2000-2003; According to Jim Parker’s Pocket Knife Traders Price Guide, the double dog head stamp was introduced around this time.

2004 Silver Anniversary; This is the Year of the Reintroduction of the “Fighting Dog” Tang Stamp. 25 Year – Silver Anniversary of Bulldog Brand Knives

2005 – 2008; February 2005, Bulldog Brand Knives retired the Double Dog Head Tang Stamp, and replaced it with a single Fighting Bulldog Stamp.

A trademark has to be used every three years to keep it active, so a few knives with the rare two “Fighting Dogs” stamp are released every few years.

The Bull Dog Brand Knives are 100% Completely Handmade in Solingen, Germany by Master Cutlers. Each Carbon steel blade is individually hammer-forged with over 240 hand operations going into each knife, then each blade is reverse frost etched with the Double Dog Head logo. Nickel Silver Pins and Shield, and Brass Liners add to the top quality craftsmanship.

Sixth Generation – 2009 to Present; Bulldog Brand USA Knives are being manufactured by Great Eastern Cutlery.
