All About Pocket Knives

Another old one bladed knife 5 inches closed... stamped Lawrence Sheffield....Knife has beautiful sawed bone handles with long bolsters....Knife seem to be in good condition.... although the handle on the back on the back has been repaired... (see picture)...blade has a good snap and looks square when half-open!!….I know very little about this knife would like to know date, age...ect all help appreciated

Looks like it has "square and clean" joint which is an indicator of an earlier knife. We need to see a good close up of the bolsters from the back of the knife where they meet the liner. If the bolster and liner are one piece it could be a really old (early 1800s) knife.

Not integral. On yours you can see the liners (scales) under the bolsters. Look at these, all one piece. Nice old piece though. O'.

I know it's a well made older barlow style knife made in Sheffield but I can't find the cutlery who made the knife or what time period it is
I would think Sheffield kept good records hopefully someone might know; just guessing I would date the knife.. (Late 1700's until middle 1800's)

I was mostly razzing JO. I've responded to dead threads before. I'm glad you were still watching to save him , but maybe he knew you were watching?

Awwww.......Yeah I did post this knife five years ago; but (smiling-knife) a gentleman from the UK who is an authority on Sheffield Cutlery didn't
respond to the post unlike the Alfred Williams knife I had just posted; therefore the Lawrence knife became a cold case situation!!
When I posted the recent MF&S barlow knife I noticed the similarities between the two knives I decided to check if any more information is avaiable
after five years....Guess it's good to let fresh eyes look at two ole survivors even though the condition isn't the best

As usual, I didn't even notice the date of the OP. Duh! I'm slowly slipping into my "golden" years. J.O'.

I was lucky enough to find another old granddaddy barlow this weekend....Now this one seems to be all orginal but I would label it to be a survivor
Although I can't find a name on the blade It's a Robeson Cutlery,,
One handle is cracked,blade is shortened and wobbly but does snap well but its all there....just what it is!!
