All About Pocket Knives

I recently acquired this solid hardwood box containing 8 drawers. The dimensions are approximately 18H x 15W x 12D and each of the drawers is about 2 inches deep. I need to line the drawers with felt or something and it will be cosy little home for the s-k collection. s-k

I wounder what he has come up with for his display...

A very cool chest of drawers there s-k::tu:: ...something you could comfortably slip into. Well, you know, I mean, like, slip your knives into.

Hi S-K thats a great place for knive thats for sure. I have always wanted a Gerstner machinist's chest to put my knife & gun cleaned stuff in. My wife just bought me one and I can't wait to start using it.

That is a beauty. Also is the Gerstner. I have one full of watches. Also a new Gerstner in walnut still in the box I found in a garage sale. Really!!

I can guess at what the fire extinguisher is for sunburst .

Uuuhh, sunburst, why does it look like a cage when the doors are closed. Uh-huh, empty fire extinguisher and a cage. Yeah, I see.

Ummm some things are better off locked up when your finished with them..And you guys know that its always a good thing to be safe when drawers are closing and shutting..It could cause too much friction and start a fire hence the fire extiguisher..

That's my story and I'm sticking with it...

Wow s-k that is a great chest for knives indeed! I gotta find something to put mine in. This 1 drawer is gettin too full. galvanic, I have wanted that chest too. I think it would be great for knives and guns alike.

Great looking knife cabinet! I'm always on the lookout for cases to hold my knives. The two that I have(plus several wooden table knife boxes and various other suitcases and brief cases)have a tendency to get full so I'm continually re-arranging them.

The best one I own was purchased by my wife for me at an antique shop when I first moved to Michigan.Up until then,I had them stored in suitcases and cases I had made from wall paper sample boxes.I use those to store my sheathes and knife boxes in now.

It is an old type-setter's case and it required quite a bit of modification to let it function as a knife box.The drawers are 16" deep by 32" wide by 1" high.There are 24 of them altogether and the compartments are lined with black velour material I got at a local fabric store.Not cheap but ideal for knives as there is no chemicals in the cloth to react with the knives.I think she paid $600 for it in 1994 but it was worth every penny.

The second box is an antique cigar trunk.It has 12 drawers and originally held about 250 cigars.It is also lined with black velour and now holds all(well most all)of my smaller knives(about 600).It is 6 1/2 inches deep by 18 1/2 inches wide by 9 1/2 inches high and the drawers are about 5/8ths of an inch deep.My brother-in-law found it in an antique shop near his home in Tennessee.It is getting to the point where it is difficult to lift.

I also have several display boards around the house with various knives on them as well as the aforementioned suitcases.

One of these days if I can ever find the time I am going to do some serious re-organization as it is getting hard to keep track of everything.It is all documented on discs with descriptions and purchase prices but it needs to be updated.Maybe this winter if I can get a break from painting.

Don't see that happening anytime soon;hell my oldest grand daughter is probably older than her! In fact she looks a lot like my second oldest grand daughter who lives in Vegas now.

Nice find SK ! I'm getting to the point I could use something like that, and get the knives off of every flat surface in the house.
