Thanks Peanut - that's a Start - It is fairly well made and appears to have some age to it as well - It appears to have Imitation Bone Handles but could be bone - German made makes since even though I don't know near as much about knives as you - it just doesn't look like the usual USA Makers

Is this a Stamp?

They look like markings but not of 'our' alphabet. Could be Russian ? or India ? i don't know but these odd marks do suggest 'foreign'.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think it is an early English made knife.The very fine match striker nail mark;the color of the bolsters(heavy on the copper in the alloy);and the steel pins that I have noticed in very early English knives. The stamps may be cyphers but on early knives there were just marks and not letters. Just my opinion folks.

Ray, the markings on your 2 old British knives are of 'our' alphabet, not the odd marks on the O.P. knife.

Roland:It may be from a time when many of the population were semi-literate and used a mark of some type rather than a name.Another possibility is the mark was poorly stamped and has worn down over the years. It doesn't look like any alphabet I have ever seen.

In Anthony Carter's "German Knife & Sword Makers 1850-1945" he shows bayonets made for the Turkish Government 1880 - ~ 1905 which are stamped with Turkish markings. These are squiggly curved lines that if partially worn off would look like the O.P. knife markings. There is no mention of folding knives with Turkish markings however my guess is O.P. knife is German, made circa 1900 for the Turkish or Arabic market.
With the visible pivot pins it does look like a German made knife.

Thanks Joe - I would say that is the most likely the case as well - I tried to look for Arabic and german stamps etc but not much luck
