All About Pocket Knives

Ok, I’m going to put this up because I’m just that delighted with it.
I got this little pen from the Kerrisdale Antique Fair out in Vancouver. It’s French Ivory. Sadly, the small blade has met a grinder or file but the main is ok and the scales are very good with barely any damage to the graphic. It’s great to have such a precise date.
I haven’t heard of the maker but Sheffield is always a good thing, to me. Not a Richards, but at least it’s a neighbour!

I think my Goins is his last and it has no more info than yours, k7k. Checked in my BRL 4th ed. and found nothing.

I’m not too worried about the maker as the knife already has a precise date. I do find it a bit odd that there isn’t more info on them. I’m not sure how product licensing worked then, but if the company was very small, I’m surprised they could produce a piece like this and pay the fees to market it. I wonder if Prince Eddy got a cut...

J.U. James & Sons first appeared in a Sheffield directory in 1911. It was started by John Unwin James, who died in 1920, leaving the business to his sons. The firm became Ltd. sometime in the 1920s, and was defunct by the early 1970s.
