what was this knife used for?

anybody know what this is (or was) used for ? I have searched using this image and find no matches - anywhere !
"Universal crucible steel" is all it says. Found in an attic.

I don't know its intended use.
It may have been made by Landers Frary & Clark.

LG-IV shows a very similar knife on page 496 and has labeled it a "Paper Hanger's Knife".

I believe it's a saddle maker or shoe maker's knife for cutting leather. I could be wrong but that's my best guess. ____Dave

It does look like a cheese cleaver. ::nod::
