All About Pocket Knives

I have been working a lot in my shop lately getting knives ready to go to the Oregon show, April 12 – 14. I spent this morning etching my name or logo on the knives that I have near completion now. This is one of the knives that I'm restoring. The yellow celluloid handle on the original knife was crumbled broken into pieces. I took these pictures yesterday but since then I have put the etch on the back of the clip blade.

The yellow bone looks a little strange to me, they weren't the same shade of yellow. I think the pile side handle is denser and didn't absorb the color as well. I had two sets of the same yellow and picked the two best matching handles out of the two sets.
I thought about making a hook sharpener/shield for it like the original had, which of course had crumbled along with the celluloid. I would have had to make a sharpener which is not that difficult but I wasn't sure I could set it far enough into the bone to get its to stay, without weakening the bone on the handle.

I like it without the hook sharpener, it lets more of the bone color show.
The good thing about slight mismatches of color in bone handles is that you don’t see both handles at the same time. (Ideally, both pieces would be the same color but when you’re dealing with dyed organic material slight mismatches probably happen more often than we care to admit).
It looks great to me! Should be an easy sell!
