All About Pocket Knives

Grandfather’s pocket knife from Iowa. It’s got the Sheffield logo and G Butler Mark. It is an 8 blade knife large blade 3.25 inch and total length with blade open 8”. Knife measures 4.75 “ closed. It has three pull out pieces, twizers, needle/tooth pick, and a ruler. One hooked blade is thick and probably a hoof cleaner. Does that make it a horseman style knife? Unfortunately the handle on one side is in very bad repair. Might be interested in getting it repaired. Thoughts?

The hoof pick would make it a horseman’s knife. Sounds like a nice knife. Would love to see pictures.

From a friend. "Tweedale's book says the Butler firm dates back to before 1774, and GEORGE Butler became boss and namesake circa 1837. Butler's acquired the ART (in the oval on the pile side of the blades) word mark in 1861. However, ENGLAND dates this knife after 1890, and the high quality construction suggests before 1915."
Levine's says the KEY mark was from Steer & Webster 1867.
