All About Pocket Knives

I have had this knife for some time but got it out the other day and it looks authentic. The tang stamp, on both blades, shows Russell with R and a arrow through it. The same on the bolsters, the back side bolster is upside down. Maybe someone with Russell experience can give me some info.

My understanding is that an authentic knife would have the center pin for the spring midway in the handle material. This knife does not meet that criteria. The pin on this knife does not appear to be on center but is closer to the bolster.

Glad my old battle axe passed the test, but it was part of a $20 knife lot purchase so . . .

Sorry I missed this post. The original knife in this post is a German reproduction. That entire series is pictured and cataloged in one of the Dewey Ferguson books on knife collecting. You can spot them at a glance by the location of the rear pin. It is not centered on the handle. For reference here is one shown in a current ebay listing. Notice it doesn't have the R on the bolster with an arrow through it.

bob mayes had the 1st or 2nd largest barlow collection in the usa...in 60s 70s and 80s... he died before the computer age but knew his barlows...he showed me 2 saw cut..Russell barlows looked exactly the same..weighed the same-quality..rivets..ect...and told me one was German...and said-IN THE FIRST BATCH ONLY you could not tell them apart after 20 years...he marked the german one...I was young and didn't ask him how many...he referred me to ferguson book for later examples..
