All About Pocket Knives

This was my first attempt at restoring a pocket knife. It's an older Klein TL 29 and when I got it years ago it was a ball of rust. I couldn't even see the tang stamp!

I soaked it in PB Blaster for a couple days and pried it open with pliers, took it apart and went to work. About half way through the project I thought this is too much work! I wanted to see what I could do with a junker so I kept going.

I used something called Diamond Wood for the handles and brass pins from the hardware store as well as turned it into a single blade knife. I'm pretty pleased with the finished product!

That looks like a winner to me!

Now you have to be very careful, repairing and modifying knives is far more addicting than collecting knives. Soon you will end up like many of us here on the AAPK we sell our safe Queens to buy broken knives that we can repair and parts knives to get parts knivesto repair the broken knives.

It's a vicious circle!

Great job. I like when people turn these knives into single blades. Or grind the screwdriver into a blade. I have 2 sitting around. You may have given me the information to do one of them for my next project.

Thanks Tom! I'd encourage you to give it a try. All I used was hand tools and a table top drill press. That and many hours of sanding and polishing!

I love it as a single blade. I've been carrying it the past few day and it's thin enough to ride comfortably in a back pocket of jeans. I sharpened the blade on my Lansky and it's shaving sharp and in the little I've used it seems to hold an edge well.
