Picked up this pre ban Ivory stockman form our own Sanders Knives. It is the larger 3 7/8 model. A fissure in the tooth on the back side but I like it. Comparison picture with it's little brother.

The feel of an ivory knife in your hand is truly awesome. The older it is the prettier it gets. Nice purchase!

The ivory Bulldogs i have owned did not show any grain with a 9x loupe. Can you see any evidence of grain on this sowbelly ?
Do you have any of the GEC ivory knives for comparison ?

kj, for information my BD ivory sowbelly has very clear grain. [I once mistook white micarta for ivory; definitely no grain. ::dang:: ]

I wonder if ivory from center area of a tusk shows little to no grain ? Maybe the 2 ivory BD's i had were hafted with 'center' ivory ?
Ivory Micarta does show lines which can be mistaken for ivory. I have been mistaken a couple of times thinking Micarta was ivory.

Roland two of the three show grain under a 45 power loupe.

Thanks Floyd. I think these Bulldogs used a range of ivory quality. There is 'reconstituted ivory' which is ivory sawdust from a cutting room floor combined with epoxy. It has no grain. I also think that the center part of a tusk has either no grain or little grain. I would sure like to have this confirmed or corrected.
Do you have a GEC with ivory to compare with the Bulldogs ?
