Gentlemen:

First, thank you for providing this forum.

Secondly, allow me to introduce myself: I am Dan, from Grants Pass, Oregon. Actuary by trade, former Marine, hunter (big game and furbearers) and aspiring pocket knife collector.

Recently I've been bitten by the muskrat bug. I was looking for a skinning knife to use on coyote and bobcat, and recollected that back in my days of working on ranches that I'd carried a Schrade "Improved Muskrat" for an everyday knife, and it was a good one. I went looking for one and much to my disappointment found that real American Schrades were a thing of the past. Although I'm currently searching high and low for a Schrade Improved Muskrat, in the process of searching I've also found a lot of high quality American knives out there that are just as worthy as my lost-but-lamented Schrades. In fact, I just ordered my first Moore Maker knife, a #3205 Muskrat.

I also went back to my grandparents place (where I grew up), and dug around until I found half a dozen old pocket knives that either my grandfather or I had used and discarded or forgotten. A couple old Cases, a Boker, and a Craftsman (sadly no muskrats). I know there's more there, but he doesn't know where they are. I'll find them as time permits. I don't think any of my Schrades are there, but one never knows.... Fortunately I don't think he's thrown anything out since 1953.

In the foreseeable future, I doubt I'll have much to add but questions and pleas for help to the discussion. But I very much enjoy this forum, and I look forward to being a part of it!

Best,

Dan

Dan, ::welcome::

The need for just one new pocket knife, and learning of the demise of Schrade, is what brought me here. I'd hate to tell you how many knives I have now.

You may spend a little money, but you'll have fun, especially on AAPK.
