Does anyone have a picture of what the top/display would have looked like back in the day? Also what do you suppose the timeframe it was in service? Thanks all.

I think the OP box is likely for kitchen/butcher cutlery or maybe razors, doesn't look like it's for pocket knives. There is no size comparison in the photos which also makes it a little hard.

Thanks for your insights. The case measures about 16” x 16” if that helps

I have owned, but no longer, similar Robeson counter-top display cases that had a crushed velvet covered top with the means of attaching display knives via a series of small springs.

I never had a top for the case in the first pic, but I did have a top for one of the three in the second pic. I do not, apparently, have a photo of it. Don't know why not.

The top was a thin sheet of wood, covered in dark green crushed velvet with the words, "ROBESON ShurEdge" impressed in silver metallic along the bottom portion. There was a long metal spring stretched across its center, length-wise and tacked down at intervals to allow folding knives to be slipped underneath and held in place.

I suspect the OP case might have had a similar arrangement. The indent in the edges around the top of the case would not have allowed for both a glass cover and a display board.

I agree the case was probably for kitchen knives, butcher, slicing and paring, I suspect.

Thanks Charlie. I’ll figure something out. Probably going to repurpose it for knives or possibly razors. Does anyone have any ideas how to emboss the “Robeson” into the velvet?

I have the same style display for Remington. I wasn't sure of its exact purpose till I saw it in one of my catalogs. Remington had there's for pocket knives. I put foam in it and plan on putting felt down. You found a cool display ::tu::

That’s a nice Rem display. From the add cut it looks like it may have had a metal top with slots for knives. It would be pretty cool to fabricate one.

Imrecieved the Case today. Im assuming it once held butcher knives based on the pattern numbers attached. Does anyone know if these #’s were designated as such! Thanks.
