I just got a good deal on a Buck Ranger skinner.

It has a terrible grind IMHO. It is a sweeping and curved grind. Making the base of the edge very fat even though it has a massive choil. Here is a pic of one. Mine was worse.

My OCD got the better of me and I “fixed” it with a dremmel tool. It’s not perfect looking but it’s at least easy to sharpen now.

If Buck had only brought the grind line to the other side of the choil by the brass it would be perfect.

Here is the picture I sent to Buck with my recommendation to move the grind line to the other side of the choil.

I have a hard time sharpening knives with complex grinds and/or big curves. It's no wonder that people (read ME) like sheepfoot/wharncliffe blades and releatively straight blades.

I agree the picture you sent them provide a much better edge profile.

And they cut so nicely! I love straight blades for general use.

What’s funny about your post: is most used sheepfoot/wharncliff blades I see have been sharpened so poorly. That they have the “complex grinds and/or big curves” added to them

Here is another little Buck knife with a sweeping grind. This one I added a much larger choil too. Not too deep, but wide enough to cover the whole sweep. It turned out good, and it is a good place to strike a ferro rod.
