Nasty little KA-BAR on the bay

Seller calls this one hardly used. Main blade is too narrow and sits way too low in the well or handles and the bone scales are home made replacements. Seller refuses to believe it isn't near mint and all original. What say you??

Your link says the auction has ended. It shows a "Made for Scouts" KaBar that looks just OK IMO, certainly not mint. It also pops up a Union Cutlery Company coke bottle handle that does look kind of nasty but might be worth the current bid of $40 or perhaps a wee bit more. Which are you referring to?
Have a great day.

I don't think there are any issues with how the blades sit in the well. I do agree that the master blade has been sharpened at some point, judging by the remains of the choil and the uneven secondary bevel. The pen blade might be factory, but this knife has definitely been over-cleaned.
My primary issue with this listing: The seller claims "chip and crack free" bone but I am seeing two major defects, one on each handle, where the bone was "carved" by a misaligned pin spinner. I have modern knives that have these same defects, usually fresh out of the factory, but I'm not sure a knife purported to be as old as this one would have spun pins. This might be a rehandle.
It's a good-looking knife, aside from the bone defects, but $120 is a tad bit high. I'd probably be a buyer at half that.

I know nothing of KA-BAR but when this knife listed a couple days ago when I saw those handles I didn't think they were original

This is my knife I have been collecting and buying & selling knives for over 30 years. This knife has been removed from EBay( so there should not be a issue!!!!!!!!!!) and it will no longer be for sale. I think that the knife has been used and was as described. All though after review with a loop I did find some small chips in the handle. (My mistake) I have sold hundreds of knifes on EBay and thousands at different knife shows. I personally don’t think the knife is nasty and as stated before I will keep it for myself and add to to my collection of others.I am sure if I had the time I could troll EBay all day and find falts with a knife or two. Sorry for any mistakes made. The ( Nasty) little knife is now deep in roll of others. It’s my knife if you don’t like it you don’t have to buy it ether!!!!!!!!

I'm curious, as I stated before, I know nothing of KA-BAR. Are the handles original to what they put on there knives? And when do you think this knife was made? In my mind, based on the shield only I was thinking 40's. Which was why I didn't think the handles were correct. Looks more like 60's bone. Once again. I don't know KA-BAR but enjoy Learning.
Thanks Keith

If it's from the 40s it could have definitely been produced with a pin spinner. It is a nice-looking knife, tho I do stand by my belief that $120 is closer to a true near-mint knife price than one with a spinner defect on each side. It gives the knife character and a story but IMO that doesn't really translate to a $$ premium.
Of course up the price of any knife is what two people agree upon so I could easilybe proven wrong.
Thanks for letting us show it off in this thread.

Master is usually stamped Ka-bar and the small blade stamped union cutlery , definitely a prewar knife , I believe the knife is priced about right for its condition and a mint example would go 400+ easily IMO .

The bone looks good but the nail pull on the blade is not right.

The idea behind easy open knives is to be able to open the blade easily with thumb and finger without having to use a nail nick. ALL E-0 knives have blade profiles that match the handle or the top of the blade often sits above the E-O notch, they do not sit below the top of the frame. This blade sits so low the E-O feature is unusable, it would be quite hard to grab the blade without the nail nick to open the knife. It is back up because you some of guys say it looks good.

Need to do your research before calling a knife bad !
I have owned and held a bunch of these to know the knife is 100% correct and yes the long nail nick is odd but correct .
Here is a picture of another one

Some real beauties, ScoutKnives. I guess these days we need to expect that premium cost for the older knives.
I still take issue with the "chip and crack free bone" description of the OP knife, however, as I think it's immediately obvious that the bone near both ends of the spring pivot pin suffered from a misaligned pin spinner incident. But YMMV! Thanks for showing these cool EOs off!

Here we go , now this one has a replacement master blade .
Sadly it looks to have lots of interest , nice steel pivot pin and cold struck tank stamp

So I was able to get the owner of both knives into the same room for comparison...
There are a couple variations between the two, which leads me to believe they were produced at different points in time. I believe they are both correct, one has NS pins where the other has brass, one has a drawn swedge on the pile side and one has a cut swedge on the pile side. The recently purchase knife has been rubbed on per the eBay listing. I'm satisfied with both knives, honestly didn't see this thread until afterward.
