I like giving away knives, especially when they give somebody good service for years to come.

Yep! I'm retiring, in a week and a half. Working on a shell conversion, to give my boss. I'll post pictures, later.

Yes, it brings me great joy to give a knife to someone that needs/wants one. I use to be a knife miser, and would only take in knives. Over years in the forum however, I have learned how rewarding it is to be generous, you get far more back than you've given.
I also often give my modding services for free, depending on the situation. I would love to do all my work for free, but materials and shipping get expensive.

I enjoy giving knives, especially to kids (with their parents permission) and to folks I know will appreciate them and use them properly. I’ve given a few to friends old enough to know better who abused and mis-used them. I don’t give them knives a second time. If they want a knife to use as a screwdriver, pry bar, or hammer, they can buy their own. JMO

It’s growing on me. I’ve got someone - someones, actually, in mind if I can find the right knives. I think I’ve got a good idea where and it’s local.
I went to the swap with the kid and future daughter in law a little while ago and stood them each to knife from $5 Knife Guy. He sometimes accidentally gets good stuff! It was fun watching them pick and choose. Josh got a little black Buck like mine and Ty picked a nice lockback for a work EDC.
It was also fun picking out my POS contribution!

I occasionally give knives to a visiting workman, to a neighbor, to some kids with parents permission. Gave a huge portion of my collection to nephews and sisters. Why have them squabble after I'm gone?

It is difficult for me to give away a knife. I have given a couple to my best friend whose financial situation doesn't allow much discretionary spending. Gave a UH stockman to a good friend at work. I'm not counting the POS Roundtable as it's more of a swap to me.
Just today I got to see my son who lives out of state and is in the middle of getting his masters degree which means we don't meet up often. After my father his grandfather passed away a few years ago my brother and our sons divided up the knives and my boy picked one that he really liked and I sharpened it up for him. I asked today if he still had it and he does but doesn't carry it often for fear of losing it. As he was leaving I handed him the Case 6347 in amber bone I carry fairly regularly, told him to stick it in his pocket and not be afraid to lose it because there are plenty more where that came from. A smile and a hug later and he was on his way to try to beat the snow. I feel better knowing he's got it, just in case.

Yup, I give them away regularly!
I did give one away that I sort of regretted though. I gave away my GEC Viper with OD green micarta handles, thinking I would just buy another for myself. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did.

I have given away quite a few; sometimes it is deeply gratifying and a coupla times it was stinky
Zane and I just teamed up and sent a couple little Schrades to a newbie in England today.
I was also the happy recipient of a Boker congress from Steve Warden recently, and a red bone CASE peanut in the POS. trade. All good fun.

One I recently gave away I enjoyed doing a lot was a Case 6318 XX 1940-64 in black bone , for some reason it didn't sell here when I posted some knifes and all the others did ? Any way I wrecked my truck about a month ago , a friend at work had a nice one I had been wanting , when he heard I wrecked mine , he came down on the price to help me out , he likes case knifes , so, after I bought the truck, I handed it to him and said just stick it in your pocket , he couldn't believe it, wanted to pay me for it, I said no its yours, I figure what goes around comes around

One big fat YES to the question.
Not me, but those guys on the forum who give really nice knives (more than one) to strangers whom they have never laid eyes on, international shipping included, and then they get really upset if there's any mention of 'reciprocation'

Do you have someone in particular in mind?

I truly enjoy gifting a knife and have given away many but it's not just me I have found that folks in the knife hobby are some of the most generous folks I've been acquainted with.

I too 'fraid to name names but I don't forget either.

For many of us the joy is in the GIVING, not in being acknowledged as the giver. Since we know how good it makes us feel when when we receive a "bomb" knife from someone, it would seem only natural that we would want to share that same feeling with others.
I must admit that for me, it's really more of a selfish thing, i.e., giving knives to other makes ME feel good. Hopefully, the recipient is also happy with my gift. It's great if they are; but, whether they are or aren't doesn't really matter...my satisfaction comes from the act of giving (hopefully, what I would like to be given), i.e, do unto others as you you would have others do unto you.
In all honesty, I have never seen this (Christian/Biblical) principle more applied in any other scenario in the real world than I have in the world of knife collecting. YMMV

I very much enjoy giving a knife as a gift especially when it is unexpected. If a serviceman comes to my house not only do i pay him but almost always give him a knife. When o.k. with the parent i give knives to children.
I have a good supply of Rough Rider knives and SanRenMu knives which are 'modern' or 'tactical' style. Both these brands have a wide choice of under $20 knives which have very high quality control and always very sharp edges. I know these knives will give many years of good 'service' and for many people it is the first time in their life to experience cutting with a truly sharp edge. We know this experience but those who are experiencing it for the first time always get a big smile on their face when they try it out.
On occasion i have met one of these recipients when out & about and i get introduced to whomever they are with as "the guy who gave me that great knife".
When people thank me i always explain that i am doing this for myself, for the pleasure i feel from giving them a good knife.
In the last 10 years i probably have gifted close to 100 knives. Sounds like a lot but it is just under one a month.
