Hey guys, my eyesite has gotten pretty bad and has stopped me from doing repairs on my knives cuz I cant see are you all using any kind of device besides glasses? …. any recommendations please. Thanks, JJ

The magnifying visor is a great suggestion. I have one with two lenses and a loupe.

Older eyeglasses were used for reading and not for constant wear so you can find them in various strengths as I have been fortunate to do. I have found some close up lenses that are great for close up work. They are very handy at gun and knife shows and flea markets.

These are the tools I use to attempt to defeat the aging process. Each has it's own specialty and place in the line-up.

This is the best option I have found for close-up work. For $10.59 it is also the cheapest. I have spent three or four times that much money and not had good results. I normally keep at least one spare of these around so if something happens to one and it falls apart (hasn't happened yet) or if I scratch a lens (which I have done) I have a replacement and don't have to wait for one to be shipped in.

There are lots of different companies that sell these in the price will go from about $10 to about $40 and most of them come in the same box!

I use a Flash Magnifier 5X Look them up on line Great item to look at Tang Stamps

You can try the ones previously mentioned. They probably work OK for most people.
If the results are not what you want, try and see if your optometrist (D.O) or
optician ( the ones who measure and bend your frames to fit your face) can come
up with something that specially fits your particular vision problems.

Here is my favorite magnifier: a gooseneck magnifying glass. I wear glasses and this thing is very helpful for stuff where I want to use both hands. If you do an Amazon search for gooseneck magnifying glass you will find several similar items. The lens on mine is 3.5 inches - the bigger the better in my opinion!

JJ, I very seldom do anything that requires magnification but if I do, I'll try to remember to let you know. They were only ten bucks w/free shipping, so if they fail miserably it's not a catastrophe.

I have a visor that is similar. It had lights on either side that I removed. (PIA)

OK thanks, maybe I need like a base/bench mounted magnifier with lights or something of the sort like dinadan showed above i`ll poke around online. Thanks again guys

We used these back in the day. Work great, depending on what you're doing.

These are what I wear in the shop. They have a built in 3X bifocal type magnifier. I keep a pair on my desk also and use them all too often. Very comfortable and they are safety glasses as well. You can get them in a range of magnification but I use the 3X and a good bright light over work. Since I do have several pair of these I write the magnification factor on the bow with a sharpie pen. No need to put them on, take them off, adjust or any other issues. Not at all cumbersome.
