All About Pocket Knives

Hello,

My husband inherited a number of knives from his father. This one has us stumped. It contains the identification marks of Pat.96750 and INOX. My husband remembers being shown the knife around the time he was 14 years old (1960), but that is about as much as we know. I'm posting a few pictures. Any insights you may have would certainly be welcome. Thanks in advance.

It's what's called an out the front, looks like it was made in Italy.

Certainly not a common knife. I have never seen one like it before.

They still make them but they look a little different now.

Apparently it is Spanish. Google the phrase "Vintage 1960's TOLEDO Spain Swedge The First Double Action Out The Front Switchblade Knife Ever Made" and you will see several photos of your knife from the www.autoknife.com website. However, when you try to link to those photos you go to a "not available" page. However, that info may be enough to conduct a more detailed search of Spanish autos.

The German and European word INOX or inoxable means stainless steel or won't rust. ALSO FOUND ON SOME WATCH CASES. not a band name.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I’ll do some more digging with the info you provided.

After 3-4 days of research I have come to the conclusion that there is not very much information available about this knife. From what I have found I feel pretty strongly that it is the Toledo sledge knife deo-pa pointed me to. I contacted auto knife.com to try to get access to the posting but haven't heard back from them. Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who would be able to value the knife for me? Thanks again for all your help!
